Clear Waters Are on the Horizon!

As with, we assume, all expecting parents, we have been constantly worried about possible problems with Cori's pregnancy, including the possibility of Katie arriving before she was ready. I did a little research yesterday and found the following table of Survival Rates for Premature Babies:

23 weeks - 17%
24 weeks - 39%
25 weeks - 50%
26 weeks - 80%
27 weeks - 90%
28-31 weeks - 90-95%
32-33 weeks - 95%
34+ weeks - Almost as likely as a full-term baby

Cori is, today, 25 weeks 5 days... It is such a great feeling to know that she has almost carried Katie long enough that if she was born today, she would have an 80% chance of surviving to get to come to her home and be a part of our family! In just a couple weeks, we'll have a 95% chance of that dream being realized...

So - as far as our current worries, clear skies are on the horizon. I'm sure, though, that as first-time parents, we'll find plenty of other things to worry about in the coming weeks and months!

I am always telling my Matt what a worrier he is...he read this and said, "and you thought I was a worrier!" Haha. This coming from the man that would print articles out for me to read like, "How to properly wear your seatbelt while pregnant." Yes, you will be amazed at the stuff you come up with to worry about but remember you have to trust in God to keep your baby safe and healthy!

I am, without a doubt, a huge worrier... I try to remember what Dad says: "Worry is interest paid on something that probably won't happen." But - I still worry. Can't help it!

Just wait for the birthing classes! I couldn't sleep on class night...but the majority of the stuff didn't happen and the couple of things I was so worried about that did happen weren't near as bad as I had imagined them to be! And DON'T read all the prayer blogs...anytime Lilly would get a rash or skip a nap I was worried sick that she had cancer or something like that! Haha. That sounds so ridiculous, but it is sooo true. Just remember when you are starting to worry a lot and beginning to freak out to stop and put it all in perspective because for those first couple of weeks it seems like EVERY THING in the whole world is dangerous somehow and some way. Control what you can and let God handle the rest...your prayer life will dramatically improve! (c:

Oh, my handsome son - you will find so many things to worry about that you will feel blessed to just fall asleep at night. Follow your Dad's advice - and leave the rest to the Lord.

I told your sister when Abi was born that the best parenting tool she has is her knees. Prayer is the only thing that gets you through in the beginning and the only thing that keeps you from killing them when they get older. LOL

Love YOU both - you will be GREAT parents!
